Describe your organization and its mission:
Recognizing the need to prepare children differently for success in the 21st century, Operation Xcel provides future-focused after-school, summer, and mentorship programs. We promote academic development and character growth through individual and target-based objectives, with a focus on individual development and achievement.
We are guided by a strong work ethic and a dedication to community betterment. Through our academic and enrichment programs, we demonstrate our commitment
• to providing equal access to quality educational resources,
• to supporting diversity of thought,
• to creating a strong foundation for the development of lifelong learners,
• to fostering civic engagement, and
• to encouraging career mindfulness in our youth..
Why do you love working for your organization?
Every day, I get to transform the lives of deserving youth. Education is a way out of poverty so I know that I am impacting their future. But the immediate impact of seeing their confidence soar, social skills increase, and grades improve is an amazing feeling.
What does being a member of the Future Fund Class of 2020 mean to your organization?
In addition to funding, it is an opportunity to collaborate with other nonprofits. It is also an opportunity for exposure and awareness among a broader audience.
What do you expect to gain from the Future Fund 10 experience?
Going through this program will help to sharpen our storytelling as we look to expand our funding and program partners.
What are you most nervous about with the FF 10 process?
Telling our story to one thousand people live.
When you're not working, where could we find you?
Cheering on my son at his sports events, reading a book, and praying with my prayer partner.
